Why the U.S. Is Losing Saudi Arabia
For the first time in UN history, Saudi Arabia has passed up an opportunity to address the world at a UN General Assembly meeting. Yet without speaking a word, Saudi Arabia sent a clear message to the United States.
In the midst of what it perceives as an all-or-nothing power struggle for the Middle East, Saudi Arabia is constantly being aggravated by what it sees as foolish and inept foreign policy decisions from the Americans. The Saudis share Israel’s view that the U.S. is tipping the balance of power in favor of Iran and its proxies, while abandoning Washington’s long-standing allies in the region.
Relations between the Saudis and the U.S. have soured in recent years. The U.S. upset them by abandoning a mutual ally in Egypt—Hosni Mubarak. Then, to make matters worse, the U.S. threw its weight behind the Muslim Brotherhood, with which the Saudis have had constant hassles, both at home and abroad. Then, when the Muslim Brotherhood was removed by the Egyptian military, the U.S. backed away from supporting the military, which is still a close friend of Saudi Arabia.
Egypt has thus served to stress relations between the U.S. and the Saudi government. Yet, Egypt is only one problem of many. Another large point of contention—one that could prove to break the relationship between the countries—is Syria.
The U.S. has continually pressured the Saudis to avoid giving what they consider to be overly powerful weapons to the rebels that could turn the tide of the war, making the excuse that Washington doesn’t wish for them to fall into the hands of extremists. The Saudis see this as the U.S. giving the advantage to Assad’s regime.
The deluge of alliance-damaging foreign policy is taking its toll in the Middle East. The U.S. is losing sight of the alliances it has formed in the region over the last decade. Instead of strengthening ties with old friends, the U.S. is subordinating their interests in the hope of attaining better relations with other powers.
These mistakes are quickly detaching the U.S. from its allies. This may be obvious to the world, especially those who witnessed Saudi Arabia’s no-show at the UN, but what most fail to see is the prophetic significance behind this corroding alliance, and how it is set to affect each and every man, woman and child on Earth.
As Trumpet editor and chief Gerald Flurry warned in 2000, “[D]on’t forget that the Middle East crisis involves you—much more than you can even imagine! We can see that our oil suppliers have a lot of hatred for Israel and the U.S., and it is intensifying very rapidly.”
Middle Eastern relations should captivate your attention because there is a specific alliance to form in the Middle East that is prophesied in your Bible—and the immediate results of it will be terrible world calamity!
This alliance, found in Psalm 83, will be bent on the destruction of the leaders of the democratic world: the U.S., Britain and Israel.
And the identities of the nations involved in this alliance? Here is what Gerald Flurry wrote in an article that thoroughly expounds upon the depths of this prophecy:
“For they have consulted together with one consent: they are confederate against thee: The tabernacles of Edom, and the Ishmaelites; of Moab, and the Hagarenes; Gebal, and Ammon, and Amalek; the Philistines with the inhabitants of Tyre; Assur also is joined with them: they have holpen the children of Lot. Selah” (verses 5-8). Here are the modern names of these nations, as taught at Ambassador College under Herbert W. Armstrong: Edom—Turkey; Ishmaelites—Saudi Arabia; Moab—Jordan; Hagarenes—anciently dwelt in the land known as Syria today; Gebal—Lebanon; Ammon—also Jordan.
And the one nation that will give this alliance real power will be Assur—Germany. That’s right. This will be an alliance between a German-led Europe, and specific nations of the Middle East! In the context of history, this is not a far-fetched notion.
Mr. Flurry continued:
Most of the Arabs were allied with Germany in World War ii. They knew what Hitler was doing to the Jews, and we know the way many Arabs feel toward the Jews. Since America and Britain support the Jews today, it is not difficult to envision the Arabs and Germans allied against them.
Watch for relations between the U.S. and Arabs in the Middle East to continue to worsen. As they do, the “moderate” Arab nations will look elsewhere for support in dealing with the rising Iranian influence in the region, and the likelihood of turning on America becomes ever more likely.
Remember what Mr. Flurry said back in 2000: “[D]on’t forget that the Middle East crisis involves you—much more than you can even imagine!” Many of the changes in alliance, the rise and wane of nations and foreign policy decisions in the far away Middle East can still have dramatic implications for you personally! Be sure you understand and recognize the broader prophecies being fulfilled in the Middle East so you can avoid the catastrophe soon to come on the Western world.
