Revelation Series—Part 9: Philadelphia’s Open Door

The story of how God’s Church went from a dilapidated hulk to an electrified powerhouse.

In Part 8 of this Revelation series we covered the fifth era of the Christian Church: Sardis. God said there was a few that remained faithful to God’s truth, but most people in this era failed in supporting God’s Work. Christ said to Sardis, “I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead” (Revelation 3:1). This era of God’s Church was spiritually dead.

But God’s Church survived, just as Jesus said it would! In the early 1900s, a new era of God’s Church emerged. This era is known as Philadelphia.

The Philadelphia era of God’s true Church was totally different than Sardis. Its work spread to nations around the globe—airing on hundreds of television stations, producing magazines with millions of subscribers, raising up colleges, it was a worldwide work. And it started with one man—Herbert W. Armstrong.
