How to Be an Overcomer

God will not do for us what we can do for ourselves.

Being a true Christian means more than confessing your sins and accepting Jesus Christ. It means a lifetime of constant submission to Him and to the Father. It means the three-pronged mission of battling Satan the devil, our evil society and our own sinful human nature.

In our literature and on our programs, we talk a lot about winning the war against sin—about overcoming our adversary and enduring to the end. The Bible tells us it’s a constant battle—and it’s one we cannot win without God’s help and power.

Jesus said in John 5:30, “I can of mine own self do nothing.” And yet, just look at what Christ was able to accomplish by the power and might of Almighty God. But Jesus had to do His part! He “offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death,” it says in the book of Hebrews. He prayed and fasted regularly. Jesus served others. He led a very active, healthy, robust lifestyle that kept Him in perfect health. He really pushed himself. He did His part.

On today’s show, Stephen Flurry gives practical steps about how to do your part in overcoming sin. He offers the free booklet How to Be an Overcomer. This booklet serves as a type of soldier’s field manual for the Christian fight. It shows you how to search out the sin in your life—and how to destroy it. It shows you how to see yourself the way you are, as God sees you. It shows you what repentance truly means, how to escape self-deception and self-righteousness, how to understand the supreme sacrifice of Jesus Christ, how to strategize spiritually, and how to go on the attack.
