The European Union can move ahead with forming its own military force now that the project’s biggest protester is on its way out of the EU. “We have the political space today to do things that were not really doable in previous years,” the EU’s head of foreign affairs said with regard to the United Kingdom’s decision to leave the union. For decades it seemed a united European army would be impossible, but now it is one of the biggest talking points in post-Brexit Europe. More than 60 years ago, one man forecast this would happen.
