What the Liberal Media Hasn’t Told You About the Trump Administration
If you read or watch the news reports coming from the liberal mainstream media, you will rarely find a good report about United States President Donald Trump. Since coming into office, coverage of the president has been about 90 percent negative. Even former President Jimmy Carter, a 93-year-old Democrat, told the New York Times, “I think the media have been harder on Trump than any other president certainly that I’ve known about.” Despite the consistent narrative by the mainstream media, some inarguably positive things have come out of the Trump presidency.
A Gallup poll from April 23 indicated that President Trump’s approval rating during his second year of office is at 37 percent. That’s right where it was for former President Barack Obama during his second year in office and only one point lower than former President Bill Clinton in his second year. Rasmussen has the president at 47 percent. But listening to the media, you’d presume that Trump was at 10 percent to Obama’s or Clinton’s 90 percent.
The way mainstream news commentators tell it, the Democratic Party will win the 2018 midterm elections by a landslide. (The same commentators said Hillary Clinton couldn’t fail to win the presidency in 2016.) But what if that doesn’t happen and the Republicans hold steady? What if the president even gains in popularity? Currently the administration has a lot of positive developments to speak about, especially with respect to the economy.
Victor Davis Hanson wrote in “Revolution and Worse to Come” on April 24, “On the domestic and foreign fronts, the Trump administration has prompted economic growth and restored U.S. deterrence. Polls show increased consumer confidence, and in some, Trump himself has gained ground.”
Take a look at how Investors.com described economic growth that has taken place under the Trump administration:
- The stock market has gained 31 percent, which equates to an additional stock market wealth of $5.5 trillion.
- About 2.2 million jobs have been added to the economy.
- Unemployment has dropped from 4.8 percent to 4.1 percent.
- Unemployment for minorities is at an all-time low since it began to be tracked in 1972.
- The Economic Optimism Index is well above its 49.3 average, growing to 55.1.
- Consumer confidence is at its highest level in 17 years.
- About $1.5 trillion in tax cuts has been passed.
- More than 164 companies announced they have increased revenue and are dolling out big bonuses to their employees.
- By December 2017, the gross domestic product had risen by more than 3 percent for two quarters in a row.
In addition, for every regulation the Trump administration adds, it eliminates two or more—even as many as 22. This cuts billions of dollars worth of expenses and restrictions that were previously imposed on businesses.
This is not to say that Trump’s presidency has been perfect, or that there are no downsides to these same statistics. I’ve written myself on the explosion of debt under Mr. Trump. But the way these facts are reported—or rather not reported—says a lot about media bias. If Mr. Obama were responsible for all this, you would definitely be hearing all about it.
“It’s amazing to see so far this year how much the president has done,” said Patrick McLaughlin, the director of the Program for Economic Research on Regulation at George Mason University. “The growth rate [in regulation] has certainly slowed under Trump—and it has slowed more than we’ve seen from other presidents in their first year.”
President Obama on the other hand added regulations by the thousands every year! In the last year of his administration, his new rules and regulations filled up 95,894 pages!
The current administration has also managed to take 1.9 million people off of food stamps since January 2017. Under the Obama administration, millions were added every year.
President Trump has also repealed certain components of Obamacare.
Meanwhile the president has increased military spending by $700 billion for additional ships, planes, helicopters, tanks and submarines. Of course that’s at great cost—principally the bloated $1.3 trillion budget—but if the press reported the news with just a little less bias, there are certainly positive takeaways to these developments.
But of course they don’t, which is why President Trump often tweets about these positive statistics or reveals them in front of the cameras before cabinet meetings. No one else will. Even when there are positive developments, the media finds ways to cast them in a negative light. This is exactly what happened when President Trump welcomed French President Emmanuel Macron on the first official state visit of his presidency.
During the visit, they both toasted their “great relationship.” As Sky News wrote on April 25, “Their speeches followed a day of public affection, with the two leaders kissing each other on the cheek, embracing for extended periods, and Mr. Trump appearing to brush ‘dandruff’ off Mr. Macron’s blazer before calling him ‘perfect.’”
President Trump commented at the arrival ceremony, “The beautiful friendship between the United States and France, forged in revolution, has changed the course of history.”
During his address, President Trump also honored the “brave French policeman” Arnaud Beltrame, who exchanged his own life for a woman taken hostage by a shooter in southern France. President Trump called him “a great man,” saying that he has been added to “this chronicle of our great heroes.”
At that particular moment of the speech, with a look of appreciation for what had been said, President Macron reached over and grabbed President Trump’s left arm.
But notice how cnn covered this historic visit: “Donald Trump is not the only president who wants to make his country great again—his first state dinner guest, Emmanuel Macron, wants to do the same,” wrote Stephen Collinson on April 24.
Collinson said, “That’s why the young, pragmatic French president is giving the impression that there’s nothing he’d rather do than spend time with his scandal-plagued U.S. counterpart, offering him the respect and validation he craves” (emphasis added throughout).
And that’s just the opening! The underlying tone of the article is, how could anyone like President Trump? Really, it reads more like a parody of cnn, but it really is cnn.
According to Collinson, President Macron was faking the whole visit because he had “no choice but to deal with the man in the Oval Office” if he wants to restore France to global influence.
“Macron is making clear that the scandals afflicting the White House, and even questions about whether they will truncate Trump’s presidency, have no effect on how he will approach the U.S. president.” This was supposed to be a main news story about an official state visit, and the left-wing author couldn’t help but hopefully conclude that Donald Trump’s presidency may be truncated!
Collinson also commented that President Trump “often behaves like he thinks that the legitimacy of his election is being undermined—either by the Russia probe or by the attacks by his enemies.”
I wonder why he could possibly think that? Look at the kind of news coverage he receives!
Syria is another example. The National Review had an article in March titled “Obama Owns the Syria Crisis,” which talked about the mess President Trump inherited after the Obama administration made a complete botch of Syria. Under the Obama administration, American troops often had their hands tied behind their backs. But since Mr. Trump has taken office, “he has loosed the rules of engagement to allow our troops to be less constrained when combating radical Islamist terrorist groups,” wrote Alex Titus. Titus also reported that the Islamic State has lost more than 98 percent of its territory in Syria and Iraq—mostly under the Trump administration!
We know from Bible prophecy that crushing the Islamic State won’t fix any long-standing problems in the Middle East. In fact, it actually helps clears the way for the prophesied king of the south to eventually dominate the region. But still, as Titus’s article brought out, Iran and Russia are both back-peddling now because of America’s show of force! It wasn’t that way under Obama.
“In a recent major escalation,” Titus continued, “United States forces killed or wounded more than 300 Kremlin-backed guns for hire near the city of Deir al-Zor, in Syria.” But after discovering that “dozens of fighters were Russian citizens, fighting under the guise of mercenaries,” President Trump made no apologies. Instead, he remained firm on his stance against the use of chemical weapons.
Last year, Syrian dictator Bashar Assad launched a chemical attack against the Syrian city Khan Shaykhun. The United States responded by launching 59 missiles to wipe out the Shayrat Air Base.
What a contrast to the previous administration that only talked about a red line, but wouldn’t take any action.
More recently we have seen a stunning turn of events with North Korea. At the start of Mr. Trump’s presidency, North Korea was threatening to nuke the United States. President Trump responded by mocking the dictator and promising to send “fire and fury” in return. Then he toughened sanctions and convinced China to apply more pressure on Kim Jong-un.
And now look where we are! North Korea just held historic talks with South Korea where they discussed working toward the “complete denuclearization of the Korean peninsula”!
Kim Jong-un has also agreed to meet with President Trump. According to cnbc, North Korean media announced just a few days ago that North Korea would “close its nuclear testing facility and suspend nuclear and intercontinental ballistic missile tests.”
The official announcement from North Korean state-run media says:
[W]ith the understanding that the suspension of nuclear tests is an important step towards worldwide nuclear disarmament, we will join the international mission and efforts to stop all nuclear tests.
Now, this is North Korea—so we’ll see what happens. But still! How would the press be handling these developments if President Obama were still in office? He actually won the Nobel Peace Prize nine months into his presidency by simply talking about denuclearization!
Again, these positive developments are short term. Bible prophecy says so. But as my father brought out in his recent article “Saving America From the Radical Left—Temporarily,” what we are seeing is “a modern-day fulfillment of what happened in ancient Israel under Jeroboam ii.” Despite the fact that Jeroboam ii was an evil king, God used him to temporarily save the nation of Judah.
“For the Lord saw the affliction of Israel, that it was very bitter: for there was not any shut up, nor any left, nor any helper for Israel. And the Lord said not that he would blot out the name of Israel from under heaven: but he saved them by the hand of Jeroboam the son of Joash” (2 Kings 14:26-27).
My father wrote:
It is critical that we realize why this resurgence! God Himself is pushing back against the Satan-inspired forces that would have destroyed this nation! He is exposing those forces so we can see them clearly. And He is using a man to save the superpower of prophetic Israel, the United States—temporarily.
Yet like anciently, this is only a temporary resurgence. Look at what happened anciently, and you recognize that the short-term gain in the nation was followed by extremely strong correction! …
God will make America great again! But the Bible shows that He will do so only after hard correction.
If you would like to learn more on this subject, read my father’s article “Saving America From the Radical Left—Temporarily.” It will explain the developments you are witnessing within America today, and tell you where they are leading.
