Britain’s Biblical Identity
The British Empire was the largest and most influential empire in world history. At its height, the British Empire controlled roughly 25 percent of the world’s land surface.
But did you know the British Commonwealth was prophesied? The fulfillment of this prophecy reveals the biblical identity of England, the nation at the center of the British Empire.
Roughly 4,000 years ago, God promised Abraham that his offspring would receive extraordinary wealth and power. This critical birthright promise is in Genesis 12: “And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless three, and make thy name great; and thou shall be a blessing” (verse 2).
1 Chronicles 5:2 records the Abrahamic promise being passed on to Jacob’s son Joseph. Then in Genesis 48, the promise is conferred upon Joseph’s sons, Manasseh and Ephraim. Verse 19 says that the descendants of Ephraim “shall become a multitude of nations.” Genesis 22:17 and Genesis 49:22 state that Ephraim would be a colonizing power that would control the world’s sea-gates. Bible prophecy and British history show that this promise began to be fulfilled in the early 19th century. By the late 19th century, God’s promises to Abraham reached the peak of their fulfillment in the British Empire. The prophesied “company of nations” had become the most powerful empire in history: the British Empire.
