Threatening the Crown That Binds Britain
Threatening the Crown That Binds Britain
Beginning in 1800, two insignificant nations suddenly began to rise. They found themselves holding power, wealth and influence on the world like no other nations in history. How did that happen?
A big part of the answer revolves around the British crown. This helps to explain why the British Empire became great, why it did so much good overall, why it has fallen, and why it is so hated.
You need to understand this throne and why recent events surrounding it are so significant. There is a hidden reason why Australia and other nations are considering rejecting their last connections to the British monarchy. When you know this, you realize what it is they are really rejecting.
Origin of the Throne
The British Empire, a “company of nations,” was the largest empire in history. It encompassed about a quarter of all land, the choicest parts of the Earth in more than 90 colonies, dominions and other territories. It ruled almost a quarter of all people. Though imperfect, it lifted many millions of people to far better lives. And leading it all was the monarch of England.
Where did nations like Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, South Africa and dozens of African and island states around the world look for something in common that could elevate the lives of their people? The British throne!
Why is that throne so unique? Today most historians trace the English monarchy back about 1,200 years to King Egbert. But in the 1800s, during the time of Queen Victoria, historians and possibly the queen herself traced the British throne back nearly 3,000 years to King David of Israel! The British throne traces back to the throne of Israel, King David and God!
Even after Britain gave its colonies independence, The United States and Britain in Prophecy emphasizes, they remained “a company, or commonwealth, of nations joined together, not by legal government, but solely by the throne of David!”
The coronation of Queen Elizabeth ii in 1953 was filled with evidence of this inspiring biblical history. The choir sang “Zadok the Priest,” which describes the coronation of David’s son Solomon in 1 Kings 1:38-40. The ceremony was performed by priests who gave the Queen a Bible, which they called “the most valuable gift this world affords” and “the lively oracles of God.” They read to her God’s instructions to monarchs in Deuteronomy 17 and anointed her with holy oil, just as Moses anointed the first Levitical priest. She was crowned while seated over the stone of destiny, the very stone used by the patriarch Jacob during his vision of “the Lord God of Abraham” (Genesis 28:10-15).
This is why that throne was so important. It is also why it has been under attack morally and culturally, especially during Elizabeth’s reign for the last seven decades.
God gave Abraham, then Isaac, then Jacob monumental, history-changing promises of national greatness. These were not fulfilled in the Jews, but in Britain and America. (In fact, Britain means “covenant people,” a clue to its history.) Later, after Israel became a nation and a monarchy, God promised that the dynasty of King David would never end: “And thine house and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established for ever” (2 Samuel 7:16). This throne would last until it was transferred to Jesus Christ Himself! (Isaiah 9:7; Luke 1:32).
The United States and Britain in Prophecy shows how God preserved that throne for centuries in the kingdom of Judah. Then He “overturned” it three times, as Ezekiel 21:27 prophesied, moving it to Ireland through the Prophet Jeremiah in 569 b.c., then to Scotland around a.d. 513, then to England at least seven centuries later.
Tragic Recent and Future History
At one time, Queen Elizabeth ii was head of state in 32 countries outside of the United Kingdom. Seventeen of these have since claimed independence from her rule: Barbados, Ceylon, Fiji, The Gambia, Guyana, Kenya, Malawi, Malta, Mauritius, Nigeria, Pakistan, Rhodesia, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tanganyika, Trinidad and Tobago, and Uganda. Even among the 15 remaining countries that retain her rule, many are pushing to reject the crown.
Barbados just renounced the monarchy on Nov. 1, 2021. It remains part of the Commonwealth but has made itself a republic and removed the Queen as its head of state. She is still head of state of the small Caribbean countries of Antigua and Barbuda, the Bahamas, Belize, Grenada, Jamaica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and the small Pacific countries of Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands and Tuvalu. Jamaica might be the next nation to reject the monarchy.
But it is possible this could happen in one or more of the larger nations that have been connected to the throne for more than 200 years.
In Australia, the republican movement is pushing to oust the Queen even before she dies or passes on the throne. About 45 percent of Australians voted “yes” to severing ties with the monarchy during the last referendum on becoming a republic in 1999. A 2020 YouGov poll indicates that public support for rejecting the monarchy might be as high as 62 percent.
In New Zealand, the current prime minister has said she favors cutting ties with the monarchy, but it has not appeared to be a top priority so far. A recent poll indicates that 1 out of every 3 New Zealanders wants to reject the monarchy.
In Canada, removing the monarchy would require constitutional reform and approval from Parliament and all 10 provinces, some of which heavily favor the monarchy. But still, a recent poll found that 45 percent of all Canadians want to cut off ties with the monarchy. And Canada has a radically liberal government that is pushing hard to make many extremely drastic changes.
Even Scotland, the nation that formed Great Britain by uniting with England in 1707, is pushing to leave! Scots pushed for and received devolved government and their own parliament in 1998. In 2014, 45 percent voted for complete secession. The United Kingdom left the European Union in 2020, an exit which was and is very unpopular in Scotland. The Scottish National Party, which controls 80 percent of the seats in the Scottish Parliament, is pushing for another referendum to break with England so it can rejoin the European Union.
Many people want to remain in the Commonwealth and stay connected to the throne, but there is a strong force that may overrule that desire. That force actively destroyed the source of the British throne’s strength and positive influence on the world: its connection to King David and the Bible, and obedience to God!
With their decisions and behavior, members of Britain’s royal family—descendants of David—have led Britain in rejecting “the most valuable gift this world affords” and in disobeying and disbelieving the God of King David! The monarchy has always had flaws, but never until the last few decades has it intentionally devalued David’s throne. A few generations ago, Britons would have fought and died to keep the stone of destiny and everything it symbolizes. But in 1996, the Queen and Parliament returned that precious stone to Scotland, exposing degeneration in their faith.
Britain’s government has allowed 17 nations to reject the monarchy, and the Queen recently congratulated Barbados for doing so. The British royals, busy trying to reinvent and “modernize” the monarchy, are wracked with problems and scandals in their own lives. Prince Charles may soon become king. He had a terrible, unfaithful marriage. He has not shown leadership. He has advocated for the false narrative of climate change. He has indicated that he will liberalize the monarchy even further, including changing one of his titles as king to include non-Anglican and non-Christian faiths. After the Church of England has already liberalized almost every moral teaching, this will leave Britain even more faithless, divided and vulnerable.
About 70 percent of Britons favor the Queen, but only 45 percent favor Charles (and only 25 percent of people in their 20s and 30s). How much would his succession to the throne accelerate the move toward secession in Australia, Canada and elsewhere?
Meanwhile Prince William and Prince Harry seem more interested in relationships with celebrities than in the history and source of strength of the throne. Prince Harry married Meghan Markle, a divorced, feminist American actress who spurred him to quit the royal family and move to California. Since then, the two have started a civil war against the royal family, including accusations of racism.
Such divisive conduct is accelerating the disintegration of this throne, its importance and its history of elevating lives around the world. Why such a sustained attack, and why is it focusing on morality? Because biblical morals and a history with God are the source of strength for the throne of David. For this reason, the devil has a special hatred for Britain’s royal family. He knows the history and prophecy of the throne of David contains the very master plan of God!
Yet he will not prevail. God will keep His promises to Abraham and David! He has already implemented a major, miraculous, inspiring change to that throne in order to keep those promises. I encourage you to read about it in my free book The New Throne of David.
