Canada to Allow Euthanizing of Mentally Ill
Canada will allow those who are mentally ill to legally kill themselves, starting March 17, 2023. Currently only those who suffer grievous or irremediable medical conditions can use the Medically Assisted in Death (maid) program. A doctor or nurse can apply a drug that causes death, or the individual may ingest the drug themselves.
Tragic statistics: So far, a shocking number of Canadians have used maid.
- 10,064 Canadians used maid in 2021, an increase of 32 percent from the previous year.
- 3.3 percent of all deaths were from euthanasia.
- 31,664 people have used maid in the six years it has been available.
- For perspective, 47,118 Canadians died from covid-19 in 2020 and 2021.
- By the end of 2023, possibly the same number of Canadians will have died from state-sanctioned suicide as the coronavirus.
There are even more disturbing trends of people under financial hardship seeking medical suicide because they see no hope in living. The Trumpet reported on these disturbing stories earlier in 2022.
Easy suicide: Before the maid program was legalized in 2016 many warned that it would be abused by people in desperate circumstances. The expansion to include mental illness will only make this worse. Making maid available to those with depression, anorexia and other issues will only feed the destructive cycle of mental illness that so many Canadians suffer from.
ctv News interviewed several individuals suffering from multiple health issues, and they are looking forward to March 17:
“There’s going to be a rush for the doors,” says Mitchell Tremblay.
The 40-year-old says he was diagnosed with severe depression as a teen and he also deals with anxiety, alcoholism, personality disorders and continual thoughts of suicide. He can’t work and lives in poverty on a disability payment of just under $1,200 a month.
“You know what your life is worth to you. And mine is worthless,” he says.
- 1 in 5 Canadians suffer from mental health issues. Over 5 million receive treatment for mental illness. Expect to see maid numbers skyrocket in 2023.
No hope in man: For the state to sanction suicide as the most cost-effective way to deal with the mentally ill or physically sick highlights the sick nature of Canadian society. The Bible says our nations will be sick from head to toe (Isaiah 1:5-6). This spiritual sickness translates to physical and mental illness in the people and their perverse “solutions” like maid. This is all caused by rebellion against God’s law (verse 4). Jeremiah 17:5 says: “Cursed be the man that trusteth in man ….”
Hope in God: No matter how hopeless a situation may appear, there is always hope in God. The Creator of the universe has made some wonderful promises in the Bible about healing. Doctors, drugs and suicide can never heal nor solve our problems. But God can if you turn your life over to Him. That is an ironclad promise that can fill your mind with real hope.
