U.S. Lawmakers: Iraq Now Belongs to Iran
Iraq is now nothing more than an Iranian client state for the terrorist-sponsoring nation’s money-laundering schemes. So wrote United States lawmakers in a February 10 letter to the Biden administration, warning against continuing America’s aid program to Iraq. Reps. Michael Waltz, Kevin Hern and Joe Wilson said that any policy toward Iraq can’t continue to “pretend it is a healthy democracy.”
Now is the time for the United States to clearly communicate to the Iraqi government the consequences of its alignment with Iran. This policy must acknowledge the reality of Iranian influence and should not continue to provide banknotes to Iraq’s banking system or grant sanctions waivers that prevent Iraqi independence and enable further Iran-backed corruption.

- Iraq receives $500 million in security aid every year.
- Iranian proxy groups are embedded at nearly every level of Iraq’s military.
- According to former intelligence officer Michael Pregent, Iran has “penetrated every sector of Iraq’s economy and made Iraq an economic lifeline in order to offset U.S. sanctions.”
In addition to security aid, the U.S. gives over $200 million in humanitarian aid to Iraq every year. Since 2014, the U.S. has given Iraq over $4 billion. But funding Iraq now also means funding the number one terrorist-sponsoring nation in the world.
The Trumpet said: Editor in chief Gerald Flurry writes in his booklet The King of the South: “The U.S.’s removal of Saddam Hussein in 2003 opened the way for Iran to heavily infiltrate Iraq, providing armaments, financing and training to Shiite militias, sending thousands of operatives into the country, and establishing economic ties with it. Moreover, the most powerful political party in Iraq is allied with Tehran. This could be a decisive factor causing Iraq to fall under Iran’s control.”
Iran is the head of the terrorist snake. And it’s control over Iraq is a major development in Bible prophecy.
