Xi Prepares to Visit Putin

Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed reports on Wednesday that Chinese General Secretary Xi Jinping is planning to visit Moscow in the coming months. “We await a visit of the president of the People’s Republic of China to Russia,” Putin told Wang Yi, a top Chinese diplomat, in a meeting at the Kremlin. “Everything is progressing, developing. We are reaching new frontiers.”

Muddled opinion: Officials from China continue to assert that China’s stance on the Ukraine conflict is one that aims to promote peace and deescalate the war. At a security conference on Tuesday, Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang said that China’s main goal is to “promote peace talks” and “provide Chinese wisdom for the political settlement of the Ukraine crisis.” He also condemned countries providing aid to Ukraine, saying that they were “adding fuel to the fire.”

Earlier this week, however, United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken warned that China may be preparing to provide weapons to Russia for the war.
