India Abstains From UN Vote on Russia’s Invasion of Ukraine
India voted to abstain from a February 23 United Nations General Assembly resolution that called to end the war in Ukraine. The non-binding resolution demanded that Russia “immediately, completely and unconditionally withdraw all of its military forces from the territory of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders.”
- Of the total 193 member nations, 141 voted in favor of the resolution.
- Seven countries voted against it, including Russia, Belarus and North Korea.
- A total of 32 countries abstained, including China, Bangladesh, Cuba, Iran, Pakistan, South Africa and Sri Lanka.
Softer words: India urged members of the G-20 Finance Ministers meeting on February 24 to refrain from discussing sanctions that have been placed on Russia. “India is not keen to discuss or back any additional sanctions on Russia during the G-20,” one Indian official told Reuters. Instead, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi told the forum to “focus on the most vulnerable citizens of the world,” such as those impacted by the pandemic or other “rising geopolitical tensions.” India also urged members to not to call the invasion a “war,” but instead a “crisis” or a “challenge.”
Sanctions: Also on February 24, the White House announced a new set of sanctions to be imposed on Russia that would further restrict its economy. In a February 22 statement, U.S. Deputy Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo said that the U.S. and Europe will work to limit Russia from selling oil to neighboring countries, as well as punish countries that continue to do business with Russia. That means India could be greatly impacted as it has been one of the main nations continuing to buy Russian crude oil.
The Bible says: Ezekiel 38 explains that in the end time, India will ultimately side with Russia. Russia’s authority is prophesied to grow so strong that it will become the leading power of Asia (verse 2). In the book of Revelation, John explains that India is not only going to side with Russia, the two nations, along with other eastern powers, will form an army of 200 million men (Revelation 9:16).
When these Asia nations—extremely powerful nuclear-armed countries—begin to show solidarity with each other regarding moves like that, what does that portend for the world? I tell you it is woe to the world. It will cause many serious problems. And it is going to affect everyone.
