Egypt Stops Coup Plot on Mubarak

President Hosni Mubarak has tenaciously held on to his power in Egypt despite ongoing threats to his rule by radical terrorists. Last week was no exception. According to WorldNetDaily, Hosni Mubarakā€™s government has thwarted a potential coup, in the planning stages, by terrorist conspirators from the Muslim Brotherhood.

The report says Egypt arrested a leader of the Muslim Brotherhood who confessed to the plot during an interrogation session with authorities.

The suspect, identified as Abed al-Munemhem Abu al-Futuh of the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood, allegedly admitted during interrogation to planning the coup. Cairo is withholding details. Egyptian officials told the Galil Report investigators are focusing on a series of conversations al-Futuh had with Muslim Brotherhood leaders in Syria.

With his predecessor, President Anwar Sadat, having been murdered by Muslim Brotherhood assassins, Mubarak has taken the coup plot seriously, raising security alert levels.

Despite decades-long efforts to suffocate the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, the terror organization continues to threaten the likelihood of Egypt remaining moderate for much longer. The Muslim Brotherhood gained legitimacy in Egypt after garnering 20 percent of the vote in the last Egyptian election. The results demonstrated that the long-time terror-exporting organization has substantial capital with the average Egyptian voter. Despite repeated efforts to expunge the group, it will not go away.

This latest coup plot demonstrates that the Muslim Brotherhood will continue to threaten Egyptian power until it either succeeds at the polls or stages a coup. At that point, Egyptian life after Mubarak is poised to take a decidedly more radical turn. The future of this nation is spoken of in our free booklet The King of the South.
