Russian Foreign Minister Tours Latin America
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov began his tour of Latin America on April 17 with a visit to Brazil. In his meeting with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, he thanked Brazil for its efforts to resolve the Ukraine War. Lavrov brought a letter from Russian President Vladimir Putin inviting Lula to the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
Lavrov also met with Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira, during which they “analyzed the course of joint work to strengthen the Russian-Brazilian strategic partnership, exchanged views on the state and prospects for development for the development of bilateral cooperation in the political, material, cultural and humanitarian spheres,” according to a statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry.
We spoke a lot on relevant issues on the international agenda, stating that Russia’s and Brazil’s approaches to issues currently taking place in the world are similar.
—Sergei Lavrov
During the rest of his five-day trip, Lavrov visited Venezuela, Nicaragua and Cuba. Russia has emphasized the trip was aimed at improving cooperation between these countries and Moscow in the political, trade, economic, educational, humanitarian, cultural and other fields.
Accusing the U.S.: Lula’s talks with Lavrov came just two days after he accused the United States of inciting the war by supplying weapons to Ukraine. “The United States needs to stop encouraging war and start talking about peace,” Lula said on April 15. Since the start of the war, Brazil has repeatedly denied or ignored requests from Ukraine and other powers to send weapons and ammunition to Ukraine.
The Trumpet says: The Bible prophesies that America will be besieged economically by countries associated with “the mart of nations” in Isaiah 23, which includes Asian superpowers Russia and China and a German-led Europe. Trumpet editor in chief Gerald Flurry has explained that Latin America will also be part of this siege:
We must remember: America cannot be besieged economically and in a trade war unless Latin America is a part of that siege. With Latin America joining in, America is surrounded.

Europe wields considerable influence in Latin America. Russia’s strengthening ties with Latin America point to a step in the same direction. These nations are preparing for a joint effort to besiege America.
