Central African Republic Ready to Host Russian Military Base
The Central African Republic (C.A.R.) is ready to host a Russian military base capable of housing up to 10,000 soldiers, according to the nation’s ambassador to Russia, Léon Dodonu-Punagaza, in an interview published on May 29.
The establishment of a Russian base will not only help accommodate up to 10,000 servicemen but also strengthen the C.A.R.’s security as it experiences an influx of refugees fleeing war-torn Sudan, Dodonu-Punagaza said.
French out, Russians in: The C.A.R., a former French colony, is seeking help from the Russians due to increased tensions with France. “Our country is the first country in Africa that resisted the French,” the ambassador said in the interview.
In recent weeks, when Russia delivered six military aircraft to us, it was the French who began to resent it, yelling and yelling. But this is not our business; our cooperation with the Russians will continue.

Last December, the remaining 130 French troops left the country’s capital, Bangui, due to the growing presence of the Russian military.
