Chinese Warplanes Enter Taiwanese Air Defense Zone
Thirty-seven Chinese military aircraft flew into Taiwan’s air defense identification zone on June 8, according to the Taiwanese Defense Ministry. The aircraft included J-11 and J-16 fighters, as well as nuclear-capable H-6 bombers.
“Some continued towards the Western Pacific for long-range reconnaissance training,” according to the Defense Ministry. Taiwan is “monitoring the situation closely” and has activated land-based missile systems and sent aircraft and ships to keep watch.
Intimidation: China views the self-ruled island as its own and often conducts military exercises nearby to intimidate Taiwan into submission. The largest incursion this year took place on April 8, when China simulated a three-day military exercise around the island.
