Nuclear Powers Expanding and Modernizing Arsenals

More nuclear warheads are being deployed as nations modernize their arsenals. The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute released its 2023 yearbook on Monday, an annual assessment of armaments, disarmament and international security.

They found that operational nuclear weapons are increasing alongside nuclear powers’ long-term plans to improve the effectiveness of their warheads.

Though the overall amount of nuclear warheads in the world is declining (due mainly to the United States and Russia retiring old warheads), the number of operational warheads is growing. As of January this year, there were 86 more warheads in military stockpiles than in 2022.

To be an operational warhead means that it is deployed with missiles and aircraft, it is fitted to missiles, or it is kept at an airbase that hosts nuclear bombers. There are an estimated 5,844 of these this year. These are weapons that are ready to launch.

No flesh saved alive: Mankind’s ability to wipe itself off the face of the Earth is increasing. This should be alarming to those watching world events. Jesus Christ prophesied of the end time in Matthew 24, stating, “[E]xcept those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved” (verse 22). We are living in that time now, when humanity has the capability of utterly destroying itself.

Christ also went on to explain the greatest event that would ever occur in the universe. In it lies tremendous hope.
