Did Obama Save Claudine Gay Amid Anti-Semitism Scandal?

When the presidents of Harvard, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the University of Pennsylvania testified on Capitol Hill on December 5, they refused to say students explicitly calling for the “genocide of Jews” violated their schools’ code of conduct. Many Americans expected each of these presidents to be fired. Yet only Penn president Liz Magill was moved from her position.

How did the other two presidents keep their jobs? It now looks like Barack Obama intervened to help save Harvard president Claudine Gay from those who wanted her to step down.

Academic connections: Obama attended Harvard Law School from 1988 to 1991 and has many personal connections there. He has been friends with Penny Sue Pritzker since the early 1990s.

Pritzker served as Obama’s secretary of Commerce before being elected to the President and Fellows of Harvard College, which oversees Harvard University. A source familiar with the matter told Jewish Insider that Obama privately lobbied on Gay’s behalf when she faced pressure to resign.
