Iran Threatens to Close the Mediterranean Sea

Iran has threatened to close the Mediterranean Sea and the Strait of Gibraltar if Israel continues to launch an offensive on Gaza with support from the United States, Iranian media reported on Saturday.

Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Brig. Gen. Mohammed Reza Naqdi said:

They shall soon await the closure of the Mediterranean Sea, [the Strait of] Gibraltar and other waterways.

Without explaining details, Naqdi promised this would be achieved by “the birth of new powers of resistance.”

Justification: Iran is Hamas’s biggest supporter and helped fund the October 7 terrorist attack on Israel (see “Iran Is Behind the Attack on Israel”).

According to Iran, the United States and Israel are committing “crimes” in Gaza by retaliating on Hamas.

Houthi attacks: Iran-backed Houthi militias in Yemen have already forced the six largest shipping companies to suspend shipments through the Red Sea.

Houthis have used drone and missile attacks to strike several commercial vessels that have no affiliation to Israel or the war.
