German Armed Forces: War Between NATO and Russia Is Imminent

A major armed conflict between the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and Russia is imminent, a secret document from the German Armed Forces quoted by Bild on January 14 said. The document, “Alliance Defense 2025,” details how a conflict between the two powers might arise.

Possible scenario: Tensions between Russia and nato could escalate as early as February, the document said, pointing to Russia’s conscription of 200,000 additional men into its armed forces.

• The document said that in July, following a successful spring offensive in Ukraine, Russia could launch a series of cyberattacks and “other forms of hybrid warfare,” primarily on East European nato states.
• Russia would then move additional troops and missiles to Kaliningrad, the Russian province sandwiched between Lithuania and Poland on the Baltic coast.
• Toward the end of 2024, Russia would create “border conflicts” and “unrests with numerous casualties” in the Suwalki Gap, a corridor between Belarus and Kaliningrad that runs along the border of nato states Poland and Lithuania.
• From there, Russia could invade East European territory with Belarussian support as it did in 2022. The document said this would culminate in the deployment of thousands of German troops and the start of war in the summer of 2025.

Whether this document’s proposed scenario proves accurate or not, it makes clear that some Germans and other Europeans are deeply concerned about Russia’s increasing aggression on their doorstep and believe it could soon draw their nations into direct conflict.
