Hamas Terrorist Attack in Israel Kills 1, Injures 17
Two Palestinian terrorists stabbed and drove over pedestrians in Ra’anana, Israel, on Monday, killing an elderly woman and injuring 17 others, including children and teenagers who were traveling home from school. Hamas claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it was carried out by “heroes of the Palestinian people.”
Ahmed Zidat, 25, and Mahmoud Zidad, 44, the two men responsible for the attack, live in the southern West Bank town of Bani Naim and had been blacklisted for entering Israel illegally.
Car-ramming: Around 1:30 p.m., one of the terrorists attacked a woman in a black Jeep on the city’s Haharoshet Street, pulled her out, stole the Jeep, and proceeded to drive over three people. When the Jeep got stuck, the terrorist abandoned it, stole another vehicle, and continued down the street plowing into more people.
We heard the noise of a crash, like a car bumping into another car. We saw the driver go to stab a woman and she ran away, and [the driver] went and stabbed a 60-year-old man while there were a bunch of screams in the background, until he fell on the ground.
—Eden Arzi, an eyewitness
The second terrorist stabbed a woman driving a white car, stole the car, and ran over several others, including elderly people, teenagers and children. He crashed into an electric pole near a bus stop and ran away on foot.
Israeli police were able to catch and arrest both terrorists.
The victims: Edna Bluestein, a 79-year-old woman, was killed in the attack. According to one report, Edna was pulled into one of the vehicles, stabbed to death, and then thrown out.
Two others, a 34-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy, are in the hospital in serious condition. Another nine people sustained moderate injuries, and six others received light wounds.
Hatred for Israel: Atrocious attacks like this one are being carried out against Israeli men, women, elderly and children more often since Hamas’s October 7 attack. These attacks are inspired by a festering hatred for Jews.
