For months, the European Union has been attacking Elon Musk and X (formerly Twitter). Why?

In December, EU regulators launched their largest attack against the platform, causing Musk to consider shutting X down in Europe. They claim X must clamp down on “disinformation.” That is not what this is about. This is a war against free speech. It is leading to a dangerous dictatorial dystopia.

The EU’s Digital Services Act (dsa) just went into effect. This law empowers the EU to shut down opposing information, obligating social media companies to delete anything the EU defines as disinformation, or face heavy fines.

In December, EU Internal Market Commissioner Thierry Breton announced the first investigation under the new law. He said, “Today’s opening of formal proceedings against X makes it clear that, with the dsa, the time of big online platforms behaving like they are ‘too big to care’ has come to an end.” They have threatened X with enormous fines of $100 million to $200 million.

What Is ‘Disinformation’?

You don’t have to dig too deeply into how these European officials define disinformation to discern their motives.

The European Digital Media Observatory decided in December that talking about climate change the wrong way is disinformation. You aren’t even allowed to criticize electric vehicles. Same with lgbtq. And if you say violent migrants are a problem and a drain on taxpayers’ money, that too is disinformation they will fine you for. You are not allowed to say the government cares more about migrants than their own people.

If you cannot express facts, we truly do live in a dangerous world.

Leaders in America have been trying to grab this same power. But here, free speech is protected under the Constitution; it isn’t as easy to get around that as it is within the EU.

Elon Musk doesn’t represent conservative views—at least the way we used to define “conservative.” He isn’t what you would consider a typical American patriot. For a long time, he was loved by the left. He owns Tesla, the world’s most famous electric car company. He is a migrant from South Africa and advocates a significant increase in legal immigration. He has nothing against transgenders (he just believes they cannot be above the law). He invests heavily in Germany and the EU, and cooperates with various EU leaders.

But he believes in free speech, and these EU officials do not. And if there is anything they especially hate, it is someone who will not submit to their dictates.

Germany Shutting Down Poland

When you see what the EU is doing, it is important to recognize Germany’s role in this. Germany dominates Europe, and it is Germany we must be most concerned about.

At the same time of this attack on Elon Musk, we witnessed a stunning attack by Germany to censor speech in Poland—under the mantle of the EU. As Bernard Connelly wrote in The Rotten Heart of Europe back in 1997, the EU is simply “a cloak for German ambition.” Now we see more and more what he meant.

As Richard Palmer wrote in his article “Did Germany Just Take Over Poland?”, Germany got involved to sway Poland’s recent election. They got the man they wanted in charge, and he neutralized the state television media that had criticized Germany. This would be akin to Britain shutting down the bbc at Germany’s request.

This Polish broadcaster had been warning about Germany’s history of propaganda and showed how it continues to this day. It was exposing the use of propaganda as disinformation. As a result, it was accused of spreading disinformation and shut down.

Poland has a constitution quite similar to America’s, but Germany is destroying the rule of law there.

Some compare Elon Musk and his supporters to Adolf Hitler and the Nazis. But it is Germany’s propaganda and the EU censorship machine that are acting like Nazis! They are doing some very Nazi-like things in Europe and other places.

The Germans have some mighty ambitions, and they are not going to allow a Polish publication or even Elon Musk to stop them!

A Disguised War on Trump

Something else they do not like about Musk’s platform is that it allows conservative views and support for President Donald Trump.

Musk is not the strongest Trump supporter, and Trump is not even using Musk’s platform personally. But if you want to find something positive about Trump on the heavily censored social media platforms, X is one place you can find it.

You can find almost nothing remotely positive about Trump in all the mainstream media in Germany. The elite in Germany despise Donald Trump, just like the radical left in America do. And as Trump’s political comeback is gaining steam, they want all the more to squash free speech that might boost his popularity.

Former German Defense Minister Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg has long warned that Germany is not prepared for a Trump return. Since Trump’s Iowa primary victory, this view has echoed throughout the German media and politics. Guttenberg has said some extraordinarily harsh things about a man who was president of the United States. He says Trump is no friend of Germany and calls a Trump comeback an “absolute horror scenario.” He says Trump’s popularity shows that Germany has a duty to prepare for war!

As I wrote in “Watch This Man Closely,” we need to watch Guttenberg. He could play a key role in Germany.

Many in the upper echelons of the EU agree with Guttenberg. Might that be partly why they want to bring X under their control?

Nevertheless, biblical prophecy shows that God is going to bring Donald Trump back to power.

But that is not the end of the story. Prophecy also shows that Europe’s power will soon after surpass that of America!

A Rising European Empire

We need to pay close attention to the authoritarian tendencies of today’s European leaders. If you don’t think like they do, they call your views disinformation and they just destroy you! As they gain more control and power, the war over free speech is destined to turn violent.

European history is filled with examples of what happened when leaders attained great heights of power. Study the medieval Holy Roman Empire, for example, and you can see how they dealt with “disinformation.” They accused people of heresy and then tortured or killed them!

Biblical prophecy is clear that this is not merely history, however. Soon Germany, at the head of a European empire—and modern resurrection of the Holy Roman Empire—will ascend as the world’s preeminent superpower.

Many biblical passages give details about this empire. One is Daniel 8, which prophesies that this European empire will “cast down the truth to the ground.” It will brand truth as “disinformation,” and exalt lies!

Revelation 13:4 shows that, difficult as this may be to believe, this modern European empire worships the devil—an evil being who has “no truth in him” (John 8:44). The world has never seen such deception as it is about to, coming from this diabolical kingdom!

These prophetic warnings are critical to understand and heed. When you see where events are headed, you can recognize just how dangerous this authoritarian trend in Europe really is. Watch closely: These leaders’ attacks on free speech are only the beginning.
