British Anti-Semitism Sets Record
Britain faced more anti-Semitic actions in 2023 than in any other year on record, the Community Security Trust (cst), a Jewish advisory body, reported on Thursday.
Numbers: The cst, which started recording such incidents in 1984, reported:
- 4,103 anti-Semitic cases occurred across Britain in 2023, more than double 2022’s number (1,662) and much higher than the previous record of 2,255 from 2021.
- 266 of 2023’s cases were violent assaults, which was another record.
- Two thirds of the incidents took place on or after October 7, when Hamas invaded Israel.
- 416 acts took place in the week following October 7, more than any other week since. This likely reflects “a celebration of the Hamas attack on Israel, rather than anger at Israel’s military response in Gaza.”
- 31 percent of last year’s incidents were online, likely indicating many more unreported instances.
Many Jewish schools in Britain have upped security in response.
Why Jewish hate? In an age that claims to be open to diversity, such hatred toward a people who have faced such prejudice throughout history can be confusing.
The Holy Bible explains why there is such anti-Semitism today and where this Jewish hatred will lead. To learn more, read “The One Minority Society Loves to Hate.”
