Russia Withdraws From Nagorno-Karabakh
Russia began withdrawing its troops from the Nagorno-Karabakh region claimed by both Azerbaijan and Armenia on Wednesday. Many see this as a sign of Russian weakness, but time will show that Moscow is very much on the rise.
Backstory: The Nagorno-Karabakh region has long been contested by Armenia and Azerbaijan. In 2020, war broke out. Russia, an Armenian ally, brokered a ceasefire and placed 2,000 troops in the areas Armenia controlled. This was an indication that Russia was working to assert greater control over the former Soviet region.
In September 2023, Azerbaijan launched an offensive, seizing control of Nagorno-Karabakh and displacing nearly all of the 50,000 ethnic Armenians living there. Russian forces failed to intervene, which was viewed as a defeat for Moscow. This prompted Armenia to break from Moscow, end its membership in Russia’s csto military group, and hold joint military exercises with the United States.
Now that Azerbaijan controls the region, the Russians are withdrawing, in part because Russian President Vladimir Putin is directing more resources toward his war against Ukraine.
Big picture: Bible prophecy tells us that Russia will strengthen. This withdrawal may actually increase Russian determination and speed the nation’s rise.
Though we don’t the details of how this will play out, what Bible prophecy tells us for certain is that Russia will soon control the largest army in human history.
