German President Calls Erdoğan ‘Valued Friend’
“Should a German head of state speak like this to an autocrat, anti-Semite and supporter of terrorism?” Germany’s Bild asked after German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier called Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan a “valuable friend” during a joint press conference at the end of his visit to Turkey, April 22 to 24.
Despite concerns, Germany is working to strengthen relations with Turkey on the countries’ shared goals.
We want to and must improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza. We want to and must prevent the war from becoming a conflagration in the region. Turkey also has a very important role to play here. … These are serious times. And that is precisely why we need each other. That is why we should give new importance to German-Turkish relations.
—Frank-Walter Steinmeier
Hatred toward Israel: Last December, Erdoğan compared Israeli President Benjamin Netanyahu to Adolf Hitler and expressed support for the terrorist group Hamas.
We’ve seen the Nazi camps of Israel. How does this happen? They used to talk about Hitler, but how are you any different than Hitler? This is even worse than Hitler. What Netanyahu is doing is no less than what Hitler did.
—Recep Tayyip Erdoğan
Just days before hosting Steinmeier, Erdoğan received Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh and his delegation in Istanbul. He expressed support for the terrorist organization and called it a “resistance group.”
Fulfilled prophecy: Psalm 83 prophesies that Germany and Turkey will form an alliance. This alliance will counter Iranian influence in the region; however, its main goal will be the destruction of Israel.
