Rocket Attack on Iraqi Base Wounds U.S. Personnel
At least five United States personnel were wounded yesterday after rockets were fired at the Ain al-Asad Airbase in western Iraq, U.S. officials say. This is the latest attack on the base, the main host of U.S. forces in Iraq.
According to Iraqi security forces, two Katyusha rockets were fired at the base and fell inside.
The attack on Ain al-Asad “marked a dangerous escalation and demonstrated Iran’s destabilizing role in the region,” said U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, and it is yet to be seen whether this was part of Iran’s response to the assassination of Hamas’s top leader last week.
