Kamala Harris Becomes the Democratic Party’s 2024 Presidential Nominee

The Democratic National Convention (dnc) announced late Monday evening that Kamala Harris won 99 percent of nearly 4,600 votes cast by delegates in a five-day online roll call, making her the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee.

Harris was the only candidate eligible to receive votes, however, as she was the only one on the ballot. Any votes cast for someone other than Harris were counted as “present.”

Vice President Harris has historic momentum at her back as we embark on the final steps in officially certifying her as our party’s nominee.

Unconventional: Delegates voted by filling out electronic ballots from their homes, similar to the 2020 convention, when the covid-19 pandemic prevented much of the party from meeting.

Harris claimed the nomination victory on Friday when dnc chair Jaime Harrison announced Harris had won a majority of the votes.

The vote tally still has to be verified, however, and a ceremonial vote will take place at the official convention in Chicago in two weeks.

Beatification: Harris’s rise to fame has been anything but normal. She had a lower approval rating than Joe Biden, but now she is said to be the most popular Democratic candidate.
