Taliban Parades U.S. Military Equipment Abandoned in Afghanistan Withdrawal
The Taliban paraded billions of dollars’ worth of American military equipment at a former United States airfield in Bagram on Wednesday, celebrating the third anniversary of America’s withdrawal from Afghanistan.
The Taliban terrorist group assumed power in Afghanistan when the Biden administration withdrew all U.S. military personnel in August 2021.
Abandoned: In the chaos of the withdrawal, the U.S. left behind around $7.1 billion worth of military equipment, the Department of Defense said, including:
- billions of dollars’ worth of aircraft
- millions of dollars’ worth of ammunition
- over 40,000 military vehicles
- more than 300,000 weapons
- communication equipment and military electronics
Defiant: The Taliban paraded this equipment around at the Bagram Airfield, which was the epicenter of America’s search for the al-Qaeda militants responsible for the 9/11 terrorist attack.
Chinese and Iranian diplomats also attended the parade.
The Islamic Emirate [Afghanistan] eliminated internal differences and expanded the scope of unity and cooperation in the country. No one will be allowed to interfere in internal affairs, and Afghan soil will not be used against any country.
—Maulvi Abdul Kabir, Taliban deputy prime minister
Humiliation: The way the Biden administration withdrew from Afghanistan was humiliating to America. The nation’s enemies still mock the U.S. for it. Why did this happen?
