U.S. to Send 600 Patriot Missiles to Germany
The United States State Department approved the sale of $5 billion worth of Patriot missiles and equipment to Germany on Thursday. The sale includes:
- 600 Patriot missiles
- Tools, spare parts, and test equipment
- Launcher modification kits
- Technical, logistical and engineering assistance.
Congress must sign off on the deal before the equipment and assistance can be sent.
Germany has nine Patriot systems in total, three of which have been deployed to Ukraine to help fight Russia.
The Pentagon’s Defense Security Cooperation Agency said in a statement:
This proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security of the United States by improving the security of a nato ally that is an important force for political and economic stability in Europe. It will support Germany’s goal of improving national and territorial defense as well as interoperability with U.S. and nato forces.
