14-Year-Old Stabbed by Illegal Immigrant

A 14-year-old girl was stabbed by an illegal immigrant while watching her brother’s baseball game in Lowell, Indiana, on Saturday. The immigrant had been deported in 2018 but returned to the United States illegally.

Dimas Gabriel Yanez, a 26-year-old man from Honduras, stabbed the girl in the hand with a butcher’s-style knife, then tried stabbing her mother when she tried defending her.

Mathew Raiman, the coach of one of the baseball teams, explained:

He just jumped on her and pushed her over. Smashed her umbrella over. And then he proceeded to pull out what I called like a bowie knife, a big 16-, 18-inch knife, and just started swinging it on her.

Dads at the baseball game chased Yanez into a nearby wooded area but lost sight of him.

The girl was taken to the hospital and treated for her injures.

The Lake County Sheriff Department launched a manhunt for Yanez, using K-9s, aviation units, officers and detectives. Yanez was discovered in a cornfield Sunday morning and arrested.

Authorities believe Yanez “may have been engaged in criminal activity across the United States since returning to the country illegally.”
