Lies Masquerading as Incompetence

Lies Masquerading as Incompetence

It’s far too easy to excuse evil behavior when it is accompanied by a silly cackle and the excuse of being a ‘knucklehead.’

In his famous essay “Politics and the English Language,” George Orwell wrote, “Political language … is designed to make lies sound truthful and murder respectable, and to give an appearance of solidity to pure wind.”

We’ve become used to politicians lying. But even when they are caught lying, they don’t admit it. Vice presidential candidate Tim Walz excuses himself by saying, “I’m just a knucklehead at times.” Presidential candidate Kamala Harris gives incoherent answers that people struggle to follow.

According to author William Lutz, these are just various forms of what he terms “doublespeak.” And while it might elicit a chuckle from time to time, it is quite dangerous.

What Is Doublespeak?

Orwell says political language is all about deception. But it goes beyond just lying. It’s about beautifying lies—making them look and sound appealing.

It is from this that Lutz derives the term “doublespeak”:

[Doublespeak] is language that makes the bad seem good, the negative appear positive, the unpleasant appear attractive or at least tolerable. Doublespeak is language that avoids or shifts responsibility, language that is at variance with its real or purported meaning. It is language that conceals or prevents thought; rather than extending thought, doublespeak limits it.

It’s easy to listen to politicians and laugh. That’s probably a part of the plan. Because if we’re laughing, we won’t see just how dangerous doublespeak actually is.

Beautifying Horror

One of the core tenets of doublespeak is language “designed to alter our perception of reality,” Lutz writes. Think about some of the tenets we hear, particularly from the left.

The radical left calls abortion “reproductive health care.” The actual act of abortion has been rebranded “the termination of a fetus.” Yet its truest definition is murder.

Even the use of the word “fetus” is to alter our perception of reality; fetus is simply the Latin word for “young human.”

Lutz calls this the use of “an inoffensive or positive word or phrase to avoid a harsh, unpleasant or distasteful reality.”

This is done in a number of different areas.

  • “Common-sense gun reform” is about annulling parts of the Constitution.
  • “Undocumented immigrants” are actually lawbreaking and potentially dangerous illegal aliens.
  • “Universal health care” helps push the nation toward socialism.
  • “Social justice” is a euphemism for permissiveness, sexual immorality, sodomy, feminism and fomenting racial strife.
  • Perhaps worst of all is how genital mutilation, chemical castration and abuse of children has been renamed “gender reassignment.”

The harsh reality is that the radical left’s aim is to destroy society, family, law and the entire nation of America as we know it. They masterfully use language to alter our perception of that reality.

The fundamental transformation of America is the end result of their lies. But what is their source?

Birthplace of a Lie

The truth is that both Harris and Walz favor open borders, lawlessness and defunding the police. They push the horrific: putting tampons in boys’ bathrooms, allowing abortions up to the time of birth, and chemically castrating children.

They want to take away the rights of Americans; they want to give all power to the government and fundamentally transform America.

In order to do that, they have to lie. Harris and Walz might not be particularly good at it. They certainly aren’t as good as Barack Obama is, but they are all liars. And all liars have the same source.

“You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out his desires,” Jesus Christ told the Pharisees. “[Satan] was a murderer from the beginning, refusing to uphold the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, because he is a liar and the father of lies. But because I speak the truth, you do not believe Me!” (John 8:44; Berean Study Bible).

“Lying is the modus operandi of these Obama-era officials,” writes Trumpet editor in chief Gerald Flurry in his book America Under Attack. “They lie as a way of life!” Jesus said that lying for such people is as easy and natural as speaking their native language.

Jesus Christ Himself spoke of Satan. He is a real power, influencing human minds at this very moment. And according to Christ, liars are Satan’s own children.

They love lying just as much as he does. It’s a hereditary trait.

The Bible says this spirit of deception is everywhere, and that everyone lies (Psalm 12:1-2). God urges us in His Bible to turn to Him, to turn our deceitful hearts to Him and His truth (Ezekiel 33:11).

The very first step in freeing ourselves from deception is to sincerely ask God to immerse us in His truth. That’s what Jesus Christ prayed for in John 17:17: “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.”

We have to go to God’s Word, the Holy Bible, for that. We need to receive the truth and then develop a love for it. Only then can we be safe from Satan’s deception. Only then can we be truly free from all lies and liars in every shape and form.
