China Coast Guard Harasses Philippine Fishing Vessels
Chinese Coast Guard ships harassed Philippine vessels with water cannons in the West Philippine Sea’s Scarborough Shoal, Manila’s navy reported Tuesday.
Why it matters: These repeated attacks illustrate Beijing’s increasing aggression and determination to dominate surrounding waters, whether it controls them or not. They also show the shifting power balance in Asia; if America wasn’t on the decline, China would not be so bold.
Details: Two ships of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources were attacked while working to resupply 23 Philippine fishermen boats when the attack happened.
- Chinese Coast Guard ships, alongside one People’s Liberation Army vessel, shadowed the Philippine boats and fired water cannons in an attempt to stop the resupply mission.
Prophesied aggression: The Bible foretold the decline of American power and the subsequent rise of China. America’s failure to stop China’s aggression will negatively affect the entire world.
