Germany Looks for Young Men Willing to Fight
The German government approved a draft law on Wednesday that will compel young men to answer a survey about their willingness to serve in the German military.
The law will require 300,000 boys who turn 18 next year to tell the government if they are interested in serving in the Bundeswehr.
Young women will also have the option of filling out the survey.
Soldiers needed: The German military is struggling to keep its troop numbers up. Last year, the number shrunk to 181,500. This has raised concerns as Russia’s war against Ukraine has proved how quickly conflict can emerge in Europe.
- Germany wants to increase its number of active troops to 203,000 by 2030, with another 60,000 in reserves.
With the new law, the nation hopes to find more young men willing to join the military. The country has also considered reinstating conscription and recruiting foreigners.
German militarism: Watch for Germany to strengthen and expand its military. Bible prophecy shows that it will soon lead a unified, militaristic Europe that will play a major role in world events.
