Republicans Win the House of Representatives

The United States Congress is now held by a Republican majority since it gained a narrow win for the House of Representatives on Tuesday. This follows a Republican win over the Senate on November 6.

  • House of Representatives: Republicans hold 218 seats; Democrats, 208.
  • Senate: Republicans hold 53 seats, Democrats 47.

Significance: A Republican majority will make possible the sweeping changes President-elect Donald Trump is promising to make immediately upon his inauguration on January 20.

On Wednesday, Mike Johnson regained his position as speaker of the House and received Trump’s support who said earlier, “I want to thank Mike Johnson. I think he’s doing a terrific job.”

Sen. John Thune is set to replace Mitch McConnell as Senate majority leader.

Big picture: The Republican trifecta win over the White House, Senate and House of Representatives is part of a prophesied resurgence—one that is happening for a very specific reason.
