U.S. Approves Greater Ukrainian Force
United States President Joe Biden approved Ukraine’s use of American weapons to strike targets inside Russia, the Washington Post reported Sunday, citing senior U.S. officials.
Full story: Washington denied this permission for months, even as Ukrainian forces said failure to provide it equated to protection of Russian weaponry and a major advantage for Vladimir Putin’s forces.
The U.S. feared allowing Ukraine to strike Russia with its Army Tactical Missile System (atacms) could spark a major retaliation.
In September, Putin said such a move would change “the very nature of the conflict dramatically,” and that “this will mean that nato countries—the U.S. and European countries—are at war with Russia.” He threatened to respond by:
- Giving long-range weapons to those who would use them to hit Western targets
- Using nuclear weapons should Ukraine strike targets in Russia or Belarus with conventional missiles (atacms can be fitted with conventional or cluster munitions).
But Biden approved Ukraine’s use of atacms after Putin enlisted thousands of North Korean troops to fight alongside Russia against Ukraine.
- Kyiv plans to use atacms to hit Russia in the coming days, according to three sources familiar with the matter.
Prophetic perspective: The Bible prophesies that Russia’s power will soon dramatically increase. Because of this, we should expect it to retake some former Soviet states.
This recent escalation will likely not significantly hurt Russia in the long term. Considering Putin’s threats, the move could actually strengthen Russia’s efforts to take Ukraine.
But Bible prophecy makes clear that the conflict in Ukraine will not lead to nuclear war between Russia and the U.S.
It is obvious that the outgoing administration in Washington intends to take steps, and they have been talking about this, to continue adding fuel to the fire and provoking further escalation of tensions around this conflict.
