A New Front in Israel’s War?

The Iran-backed Islamic Resistance in Iraq (iri) has increased its attacks on Israeli territory in recent weeks, igniting concerns that Israel’s war on terrorism is about to expand further.

According to data collected by the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, Israel claims the iri fired the following:

  • September 16-22: 7 drones, 1 cruise missile
  • September 23-30: 22 drones, 5 cruise missiles
  • October 1-7: 13 drones, 6 cruise missiles
  • October 8-14: 30 drones, 2 cruise missiles

The same data also reveals the expansion of targeted Israeli territory.

  • Between September 1 and October 14, the number of north Israel locations attacked by Iraqi militants went from 1 to 18.
  • The target has shifted from Israeli ports to military sites in the Golan Heights.

The biggest attack took place on October 1, when a drone strike on the Golan Heights killed two soldiers of the Israel Defense Forces and wounded 24 others.

Six days later, on October 7, iri leader Kataib Sayyid al-Shuhada posted on X: “Just as Hezbollah continues to be the first line of defense for Gaza, Iraq has become the first support front for both Lebanon and Gaza.”

An appeal: On Monday, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar implored the United Nations to provide support for Israel, posting a letter on X:

This evening I sent a letter to the president of the UN Security Council in which I called for immediate action regarding the activity of the pro-Iranian militias in Iraq, which is being used to attack Israel.

I emphasized that the Iraqi government is responsible for everything that happens on its territory and that Israel has the right to self-defense, enshrined in the UN Charter, to protect itself and its citizens.

I called on the Security Council to act urgently to make sure that the Iraqi government meets its obligations under international law and to make sure that these attacks on Israel stop.

That night, the Israel Defense Forces intercepted a drone used by Iraqi militants to target Eilat. There were no reported injuries.

Perspective: Israel’s response in Gaza and Lebanon demonstrates that it is not afraid to confront any group or nation that threatens the safety of its citizens. Bible prophecy says that the nations of Israel are entering a time of resurgence, implying that Israel will continue to win its battles, temporarily.
