Rioters Burn Effigy of Netanyahu in Montreal

Pro-Palestinian, anti-nato riots were held in Montreal, Canada, over the weekend. Rioters burned cars, smashed windows, assaulted police, and set fire to an effigy of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Anti-Israel: The demonstrations began on Friday, mostly formed by student groups, to denounce nato’s support for Israel in the lead-up to a nato conference in Montreal on Monday. The group waved Palestinian, Lebanese, Iranian and Communist flags and signs promoting an intifada.

The demonstration started calmly, but after an effigy of Netanyahu was burned, protesters began assaulting police with metal objects and explosive devices. Three people were arrested.

Friday’s riot follows a strike of 85,000 university students in Quebec who are calling for intifada and the “final solution,” referring to the Nazis’ plan to kill all Jews.

No anti-Semitism? According to Montreal police, however, there were no reported incidents of anti-Semitism on Friday night.

“I can’t make the correlation with yesterday’s acts, whether they were anti-Semitic or not,” Montreal Police Chief Fady Dagher told reporters on Saturday afternoon.

Anti-Israel protests continued throughout the weekend.

Where was Trudeau? Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was at a Taylor Swift concert dancing along to songs with his daughter, during the riots Friday night.

On Saturday afternoon, Trudeau condemned the protests in a post on X.

Then at the nato conference on Monday, he said violent protesters should be “pursued and punished.”

Trudeau against Netanyahu: After the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu last week, Trudeau said he would “abide by” the ruling if Netanyahu stepped foot on Canadian soil.

“We stand up for international law, and we will abide by all the regulations and rulings of the international courts. This is just who we are as Canadians,” Trudeau said.

Trudeau has made other similar sentiments that have emboldened and enabled anti-Semitic activists in Canada. He is actively working against Netanyahu and the State of Israel.
