UN Fires Prevention of Genocide Adviser for Not Upholding Anti-Israel Agenda

United Nations Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide Alice Wairimu Nderitu will not have her contract renewed “because she has stood firm in her belief that Israel’s war with Hamas isn’t genocide,” the Wall Street Journal reported on Monday.

Defining genocide: The “frequent misuse” of the term “genocide” led Nderitu to write a paper in 2022 providing guidance on its correct usage. She singles out intent as the key factor that determines whether a nation or group of people is guilty of committing genocide.

Israel’s record proves its intent is not to eliminate the Gazan population. “The Jewish state has gone to great lengths to minimize Palestinian civilian casualties, even as Hamas uses civilians as shields so their deaths can be used as propaganda,” wrote the Wall Street Journal.

Increasing anti-Semitism: Yet members of the UN continue to push their own narrative. Francesca Albanese, who is over investigations into human rights in Palestinian Territories, claims, “There is no doubt that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza, as well as intensive destruction operations.”

Similarly, a UN report on November 14 supported “the possibility of genocide in Gaza and an apartheid system in the West Bank.”

The Wall Street Journal praised Nderitu, whose “refusal to endorse a lie in service of a political agenda has been a profile in courage.” It then asked, “Can anyone with integrity survive at the UN?”

This recent firing shows that anti-Semitism within the United Nations has become less of an undertone and more of a defining trademark of the organization.
