Germany Charges Four Suspected Hamas Members
German prosecutors on Monday charged four suspected Hamas members who were setting up weapons storage sites in Europe.
- Two men born in Lebanon, an Egyptian citizen and a Dutch man were suspected of holding high positions within Hamas and having direct ties to senior officials in the organization’s military wing.
- One of the Lebanese men set up a weapons storage facility for Hamas in Bulgaria in 2019, with contents that included ammunition and a Kalashnikov assault rifle.
- That year, the same man also cleared out a weapons depot in Denmark and brought at least one pistol from there to Germany.
- All four men left Germany between June and December 2023 to search for another Hamas weapons depot in Poland.
Targeting Jews: The prosecutors said Hamas has set up underground weapons depots in countries across Europe to prepare for potential attacks against Jews or Jewish institutions. The storage sites are maintained by foreign agents with European residency, who can be mobilized at short notice.
Prosecutors said possible targets in Germany were the Israeli embassy in Berlin, the U.S. airbase in Ramstein and the Tempelhof Airport.
