Germany: Migrants Must Assimilate to Dominant Culture

Migrants will be expected to assimilate to Germany’s “dominant culture,” a German member of parliament told the Telegraph on Friday.

It is the way that we live in Germany as a cultural nation. It concerns not only our languages and customs, but also our cultural and historical foundations. It ultimately means that people, no matter why they come to Germany, orient themselves towards this cultural basis, not the other way around.

The German way: Going forward, migrants will be expected to assimilate to traditional German culture. The term leitkultur, meaning “leading culture,” is frequently used in debates surrounding the integration of migrants into society. It is the principle that migrants should adopt German culture.

German politicians such as Throm are sending a clear message to migrants: It’s the German way or no way at all.
