Russia Is Stealing Ukrainian Children
Russian President Vladimir Putin’s agents are stealing Ukrainian children and putting them up for adoption in Russia, a new report by the Yale School of Public Health Humanitarian Research Lab reaffirmed Tuesday.
- Researchers gathered the evidence by hacking Russian adoption databases. They identified 314 Ukrainian children registered in Russia.
War crime: As defined by Article ii of the Geneva Convention, kidnapping and forced adoption of children is an act of genocide. It also constitutes a war crime as defined by the International Criminal Court.
The report is to be presented to the United Nations as evidence of war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide.
Stealing children: This system of deportation, indoctrination and forced adoption of Ukrainian children is part of a wider scheme to supplement Russia’s plummeting population.
The children are taken from their Ukrainian families, told their families are either dead or no longer want them, and then placed with a Russian family or sent to reeducation camps. They will later be made naturalized Russian citizens and put into adoption databases.
New report, same story: Russia’s history of systematically abducting and relocating children has been thoroughly documented before. A report published almost two years ago found at least 6,000 children had been trafficked through this relocation network. Other estimates put the number into the tens of thousands.
Putin has even boasted on his official website about kidnapping Ukrainian children. He is determined to advance Russia to superpower status and will conquer as much of Ukraine’s land and people as possible, by whatever means necessary.
