White House Considers Preemptively Pardoning Biden’s Allies
United States President Joe Biden’s administration is looking into preemptively pardoning people President-elect Donald Trump may investigate, Politico reported Wednesday.
Why it matters: Pardoning people for undiscovered crimes is a controversial matter, as seen in Biden’s recent pardon of his son. The fact that the White House is considering this indicates the administration knows those in question have committed crimes.
In 2020, msnbc’s Joy Reid said:
The presidential pardon was originally meant to grant the president the power to temper justice with mercy. It was not enshrined in our Constitution so that a dishonorable man could reward his criminal allies, friends and family for their corrupt practices.
