‘Muhammad’ Is the Most Popular Baby Name in England and Wales
“Muhammad” surpassed “Noah” as the favorite name for newborn boys in England and Wales in 2023, according to figures released Thursday by the British Office of National Statistics.
When all the 30-plus spelling variations of the name “Muhammad” are totaled, it has been the most common name in England for over a decade. But this marks the first time a single spelling variation has topped the baby name charts.
Changing demographics: This milestone does not mean there are now more Muslims than Christians in the United Kingdom. Muslims generally use far less variety in their male naming conventions than do people of Christian backgrounds; many families name at least one of their sons after the founder of Islam.
Nevertheless, the development shows that the influx of migrants the United Kingdom has allowed continues to change the face of its society.
- Over 25 percent of all babies born in the UK are born to migrant mothers.
- Each day sees 1,142 documented migrations to Britain, amounting to one every 1.27 minutes, as estimated by the World Population Review.
- That is 11 times as many as Germany, and over four times as many as France.
Big picture: Since July 5, when Keir Starmer’s Labour government took over leadership of Britain, 20,000 immigrants have crossed the English Channel on small boats. On Thursday, Starmer outlined six “milestones” his government would work to achieve. Notably, he neglected to present any concrete plan to reduce immigration, which his government pledged to do before coming into power.
More than 147,800 people have crossed into Britain on small boats since 2018, when record-keeping began.
In 2021, 6 percent of Britons identified as Muslim, according the the UK’s census data, up from 4.8 percent in 2011. Though significantly smaller that the 46 percent that identified as Christian in 2021, it shows the increasing Muslim population. Islam is the second-most common religion in the UK.
Britain’s migrant crisis is about much more than just weak leadership. At its core lies the familial and societal decline destroying Britain.
Prophetic perspective: The Bible prophesies that Britain’s lack of strong, moral leadership will contribute to the nation being overrun by foreigners.
Britain’s migrant problems, then, reflect a host of deep problems: moral and family problems that lead to “mental health” issues; poor physical health; economic decline; rule from Europe; and a lack of bold leadership to deal with any of them.
This is not simply a physical problem: It is a moral and spiritual crisis.
