Notre Dame Unites Europe and Trump
President-elect Donald Trump had the world’s attention when he arrived in France on Saturday for the grand reopening of the Notre Dame Cathedral, which was badly damaged by a fire in 2019.
President Emmanuel Macron has done a wonderful job ensuring that Notre Dame has been restored to its full level of glory, and even more so.

Unity in crisis: In his first trip abroad since being elected president, Mr. Trump praised the relationship between the United States and France during a meeting with Macron.
It’s a great honor to be here and we’ve had a good time together and a lot of really great success working together. … It seems like the world has gone crazy right now and we will be talking about that.
—Donald Trump
Ukraine: Trump also joined Macron in a discussion with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy about how to end the war in Ukraine.
We all want this war to end as soon as possible and in a just way. We spoke about our people, the situation on the ground, and a just peace. We agreed to continue working together and keep in contact. Peace through strength is possible.
—Volodymyr Zelenskyy
Unity through religion: Notre Dame has united leaders from around the world with many different political views amid great global tensions. This shows the great power that religion holds.
Donald Trump himself has been cozying up to the religions of this world. In addition to gaining the majority of the evangelical vote and Protestant vote in the November 5 election, he also won the support of a majority of Catholic swing voters.
False security: While religion appears to unite America and Europe, major differences remain. In a 2018 speech during Trump’s first term, Macron called for a “true European army” with the goal “to protect ourselves with respect to China, Russia and even the United States of America.”
Trumpet editor in chief Gerald Flurry has repeatedly warned that Europe’s attempts to unite the world through the Catholic faith are dangerous.
While Macron is seeking closer alliance with Germany, he is also allying with Europe’s oldest institution: the Roman Catholic Church. Macron is thus leading France into a dangerous church-state union that has plagued the Continent for centuries: the Holy Roman Empire.
In the name of religion, millions have fought and died on the European continent. For rejecting Catholicism, many have been tortured and killed by the state but at the behest of the church!
