Syrian Crisis Fulfills Bible Prophecy

Bashar Assad has fallen. Here’s what will happen next.

Bible prophecy is being fulfilled before our eyes! For nearly five decades, Syria’s Assad dynasty has allied with Iran. It was a key section of the Shia Crescent that spread across the Middle East. My father, Trumpet editor in chief Gerald Flurry, forecast that Iran and radical Islam would spread and grow more powerful than anyone imagined—and he specified that Syria would break away from Iran!

He has been writing in the Philadelphia Trumpet about the formation of a Middle East power bloc that will push against a European power bloc since Volume 1, Number 5, when the magazine was a black-and-white, 12-page publication with no images (“King of the South—Is He Now on the World Scene?” September-October 1990). Then he zeroed in on Iran (“An Islamic King of the South?” July 1992). But the prophecy gets even more specific. Since the 2000s, he has specified that Syria, an important ally of Iran, will not be part of the “king of the south” alliance.

“Psalm 83 reveals what is ahead. Based on that prophecy, the Trumpet has forecast for years that Syria is going to break away from its alliance with Iran” (“The Deadliest Mystery in the Middle East,” December 2012).

In his landmark September 2012 article “How the Syrian Crisis Will End,” he wrote: “Biblical prophecy reveals that, very soon, Syria will no longer align with Iran. It also shows that Germany will help cause this split. … Psalm 83 discusses a multination Middle Eastern confederation that will ally with Germany. This alliance has never happened in history. All of the Bible commentaries will tell you that. But it is happening now. It takes time to build a confederation like that, and it is now well underway.”

The dramatic collapse of Syrian dictator Bashar Assad’s regime over the weekend shows my father was right.

My father had no insider information for making these forecasts—not this year, not a decade ago, not 34 years ago. What he did have was a thorough understanding of the Bible and special insight into what its prophecies mean. He started with the prophecies, looked into world news in faith that they would absolutely be fulfilled, and tried to understand how and when this would happen. He has been doing this since the days when world news was basically a few newspapers and 9 o’clock television programs.

The Psalm 83 prophecy my father refers to in “How the Syrian Crisis Will End” specifies that the Ammonites, Amalakites, Edomites, Gebalites, Hagarenes, Ishmaelites, Moabites, Philistines and Tyrians will ally with Assyria against Israel. Herbert W. Armstrong taught for decades that the modern descendants of ancient Assyria are the Germans, and that the modern descendants of ancient Israel are mainly the United States and Britain. (For proof, request your free copy of The United States and Britain in Prophecy.)

This prophecy is about the U.S., Britain and the State of Israel being attacked by Arab and Turkish nations that ally with Germany. The Assad dynasty aligned the Syrian Arabs with the Iranian Persians. This didn’t match this understanding of Bible prophecy. My father knew that sooner or later Syria would break away from Iran and ally instead with Europe.

What is happening in Syria this very moment—and what will happen there in the days ahead—confirms that this understanding of this specific Bible prophecy is correct!

This prophesied realignment could have happened a decade ago if United States President Barack Obama and Russian President Vladimir Putin had not worked together to prop up Assad’s regime. But now Obama is being silenced and Putin is bogged down in his invasion of Ukraine.

Syria’s allegiance is about to change dramatically.

Assad’s regime is so important to Iran that it has poured money, weapons and tens of thousands of troops, mercenaries and officers into Syria for more than a decade to try to defeat anti-Assad rebels. But as the rebels surged toward the capital a few days ago, the Iranians retreated and left the country.

With Assad gone and Iran—for all its power and influence—withdrawing, Syria has an enormous power void. Who will fill it?

My father answered this question in a Key of David program earlier this year, stating: “But what will happen whenever Bashar Assad is no longer ruling Syria? At this time, they have Russia there, propping him up. They’re making slaves of the people, and they don’t want to be living under Assad. Millions of them have already immigrated, and many of them in Germany, itself. So this alliance gives Russia a naval and air force base, just like it does the Iranians, where they can be right on the edge of the Mediterranean Sea, and in one of the most strategic places in the world for Russia and Iran to be. But when Germany is allied with Syria, of course that’s going to be taken away, and Germany and Iran will no longer have the Russians there [enabling] Bashar Assad to continue to rule.”

This is the big prophetic picture! Every major power wants to take advantage of the situation: Iran, Russia, Israel, the United States, etc. But you will soon see that it’s the Europeans and Germans who succeed.

If you know what to look for, you can see early signs of this. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, who happens to be a former German defense minister, has already offered to help rebuild a Syria that protects Syrian Christian and Muslim minorities from persecution.

The prophesied realignment has already begun!

My father’s 2012 article “How the Syrian Crisis Will End” goes on to explain that just before the Psalm 83 prophecy is totally fulfilled, Germany will lead a blitzkrieg-style war against Iran, Egypt, Libya and Ethiopia. After Germany crushes these radical Islamic allies, the Psalm 83 nations will ally with Germany against America, Britain, and the little nation of Israel.

These events are leading to World War iii.

Some may find this prediction hard to believe, but events are lining up perfectly with Bible prophecies in Psalm 83 and Daniel 11-12—and with Trumpet editor in chief Gerald Flurry’s explanations of those prophecies!

Watch Syria! What happens there will affect the Iranian power bloc, the European power bloc, the modern nations of Israel and the whole world!
