Poland Threatens to Arrest Netanyahu
If Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu attends the 80th anniversary of Auschwitz’s liberation on January 27, he may be arrested by Polish authorities.
Why? The International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant in November for allegedly committing war crimes in Gaza. These allegations are easily disproved.
As a signatory of the court, Poland has the obligation to respect the court’s decision, Deputy Foreign Minister Władysław Bartoszewski told Polish newspaper Rzeczpospolita.
It is unclear who will take Netanyahu’s place to represent Israel at the ceremony.
Ironic: Auschwitz serves as a reminder of what happens when anti-Semitism is left to run its course. Yet this threat from Poland has tainted this year’s commemorations with undertones of anti-Semitism.
