Germany Commissions €60 Million for Aid Projects in Syria

German Development Minister Svenja Schulze said on Monday that Germany will back €60 million (us$62.7 million) worth of projects to boost education and other sectors in Syria. The overthrow of President Bashar Assad offers a “historic window” of “opportunity,” she noted.

A historic window has opened in Syria. What happens next has not yet been decided. But the opportunity for a positive development is there, and we should now do everything we can to support it. Education is a crucial area for this.

This is only the latest evidence showing that Germany is poised to secure major influence in post-Assad Syria.
