Nearly Half of Adults Worldwide Hold Anti-Semitic Views

Nearly half of the world’s adult population harbors anti-Semitic attitudes, according to a survey published by the Anti-Defamation League on Tuesday.

The survey polled over 58,000 adults from 103 countries and territories about the truth value of 11 proposed negative statements about Jewish people. The statements included:

  • “People hate Jews because of the way Jews behave”—48 percent of respondents believed to be true.
  • “Jews have too much control over world affairs”—46 percent believed.
  • “Jews are responsible for most of the world’s wars”—35 percent believed.

The survey found: Anti-Semitic attitudes worldwide have doubled over the past decade.

  • Forty-six percent of the world’s population harbors anti-Semitic views.
  • Seventy-six percent of respondents in the Middle East and North Africa believe most of the 11 negative stereotypes to be true.
  • Around half of the respondents in Asia, Eastern Europe and sub-Saharan Africa exhibited high levels of anti-Semitic views.
  • The Americas, Western Europe and Oceania displayed relatively lower levels of anti-Semitic attitudes, though 1 in 5 adults hold anti-Semitic beliefs.

The survey also found that only 48 percent of adults believe the historical facts of the Holocaust, when some 6 million Jewish people were systematically murdered. Twenty percent of respondents had never heard of the Holocaust, increasing to 39 percent among those ages 18 to 34.

Anti-Semitism is nothing short of a global emergency, especially in a post-October 7 world.
