Lebanon Spy Chief Helped Hezbollah

The Israel-Lebanon ceasefire deal is in jeopardy after Lebanon’s head of intelligence was caught supplying Hezbollah with secret information, the Times reported on January 26.

Secret: The Times report was published on the same day of the scheduled end of the ceasefire. It cites unidentified sources claiming that Suhil Bahij Gharb, the chief of intelligence for southern Lebanon’s military, has been feeding Hezbollah secret intelligence from a command center operated by the United Nations, the United States and France. This gave Hezbollah members advance warnings about Israeli operations.

Deal: The ceasefire deal between Israel and Lebanon was mediated by the U.S. and France in November.

  • According to the terms of the deal, Hezbollah was prohibited from conducting military operations south of the Litani River, 25 miles from Lebanon’s border with Israel.
  • The Lebanese Army, alongside UN troops, was to take over Hezbollah’s bases and recover any weapons.
  • In exchange, Israeli soldiers would withdraw from southern Lebanon by Sunday morning.

Yesterday, the Israel Defense Forces announced that it had extended the withdrawal deadline until February 18, due to Hezbollah’s violations of the agreement.

Wound: The Bible prophesies that the Middle East peace process will be a permanent wound for Israel until it repents of its national sins.
