Hamas to Surrender to the Palestinian Authority?

Hamas may be ready to hand over control of Gaza to the Palestinian Authority, Sky News Arabia reported Sunday night.

According to anonymous sources, Egypt has been pressuring Hamas for some sort of compromise in its control over Gaza. The current plan, per one source, is for Hamas’s government employees to be “re-absorbed into the new administration or that they would retire, with a guarantee that their salaries be paid.”

Background: The Palestinian Authority (PA) controls part of the West Bank. It once controlled Gaza also, but was ousted by Hamas in a 2007 civil war. Since the Oct. 7, 2023, massacre restarted the Israel-Hamas War, the PA has marketed itself as the logical institution to take over.

Hamas has so far refused any deal with Israel that would see it leave Gaza. But Israel has said it cannot agree to Hamas staying in Gaza.

A merger with the PA is probably the only way Hamas will lessen some of its demands. Israel would probably reject this, but if the international community forces such an agreement to happen, as United States President Donald Trump did with the latest ceasefire, Israel may be compelled to go along.

What’s next? Gaza under Hamas has been part of Iran’s proxy empire, but the Trumpet expects Gaza to leave Iran’s influence and enter an alliance with other Arab nations and Europe.

This is based on a prophecy in Psalm 83, which lists Gaza under its ancestral name, “the Philistines,” allied with “Assur,” or modern-day Germany. (Our relevant Trends article goes into more detail.)

Commentating on this psalm, Trumpet editor in chief Gerald Flurry writes in The King of the South:

Iran has led Hezbollah and the Palestinians in their terrorist activities for years. They all share some common enemies—especially America and Israel. But in some religious and political aspects, their views differ; this could cause Hezbollah and the Palestinians to ally themselves with Germany. There may soon be some significant power shifts in Gaza.

We last published The King of the South months before Hamas’s terrorist attack on Oct. 7, 2023. We have certainly witnessed “significant power shifts in Gaza,” and we expect more “power shifts” in the near future. The latest report may suggest Hamas is ready for this as well.
