Witkoff Exposes Major Flaw in Donald Trump Peace Deals
Steve Witkoff exposed the major flaw in his thinking as a peacemaker in an interview with Tucker Carlson that aired over the weekend. He claimed to be in constant contact with President Donald Trump—so it probably reflects a flaw in his thinking too.
To Witkoff, everyone he is talking to is a great guy and genuine peacemaker. This is most dramatic in his views on Qatar. Veteran journalist Melanie Phillips wrote: “Qatar’s role as an ‘honest broker’ in negotiations between Israel and Iran’s proxy Hamas was farcical. For these purposes, Qatar was Hamas.”
“For Qatar is behind Hamas,” she wrote. “It created it, funds it and protects its leaders. Qatar promotes the Muslim Brotherhood—the jihadi parent of Hamas—and hosts the Islamist propaganda news outlet Al Jazeera.” Iran is an even more important player in backing Hamas and other terrorist groups, but Qatar has been an important tool.
But to Witkoff, the Qataris are “good, decent people” and “want to be acknowledged as a peacemaker.” Sheikh Mohammed, the prime minister of Qatar, is “a good man,” “a special guy” and a “decent human being who wants what’s best for his people.”
Witkoff has a similar view of just about everyone he deals with.
Even Hamas is “not ideologically intractable,” and “once you understand that they wanted to live, then you were able to talk to them in a more effective way.” The solution to Gaza is to bring in prosperity and modern technology. “Maybe it’s about AI coming there,” he said. “Maybe it’s about hyperscale data centers being seeded into that area, because we need to have that and these people can now take advantage and we can create jobs for them there. Maybe it’s about blockchain and robotics coming there. Maybe it’s about pharmaceutical manufacturing coming there.”
Witkoff said he “liked” Vladimir Putin. “I don’t regard Putin as a bad guy,” he said.
“President Putin had commissioned a beautiful portrait of President Trump,” he said. Mr. Putin told Witkoff he prayed for “his friend” Donald Trump after the assassination attempt last summer. “I came home and delivered that message to our president and delivered the painting, and he was clearly touched by it,” Witkoff said.
Contrast that with what Trumpet editor in chief Gerald Flurry said about Putin in the latest Trumpet issue:
The Russo-Ukrainian War is showing the world the scale of evil Putin is willing to commit. Russia is inflicting terrible atrocities against Ukrainians. It is deliberately bombing civilian structures, including apartment buildings, hospitals and schools. It is laying mines in areas it retreats from, putting innocent lives at risk. It has forcibly taken at least 20,000 Ukrainian children to Russia and is paying Russian families to adopt and “reeducate” them, a crime that international law labels as genocide. The European Union’s justice commissioner says that 65,000 suspected war crimes—violations of international law—have been reported since Russia launched its invasion. Most of the world can recognize the wickedness of such acts.
This is all being directed by Vladimir Putin. This man has been working to rebuild the Soviet empire for years, including taking over territory from former Soviet states. But in Ukraine, he is encountering real resistance for the first time, and he is showing himself willing to keep escalating the brutality to achieve his goals.
One Russian journalist called Putin “a supersize model of the kgb.” Putin has supplied enormous support to the suicidal religious extremist regime ruling Iran, including its nuclear weapons program. In Chechnya, an Islamic separatist region of Russia, Putin lashed out in warfare that killed more than 80,000 of his own people! He has crushed Russia’s independent media and taken control of it, including allegedly ordering the murder of dozens of journalists. He is also widely considered responsible for the 2004 poisoning of Ukraine’s opposition leader Viktor Yushchenko.
Putin is an evil, ruthless, vindictive agent with Soviet-style methods of psychological warfare, assassination and war. He has disgusting and devastating policies that are sick to the core and even satanic!
Jesus Christ repeatedly emphasized that we must judge by fruits. A painting and some kind words cannot override Putin’s murder, warfare and tyranny.
Mr. Witkoff greatly underestimates the evil all around him. To him, Putin, Qatar and even Hamas are all honest brokers with rational motivations. “I think anything can be solved with dialogue by clearing up misconception and miscommunication and disconnects between people,” he said.
He could hardly be more wrong. After Mr. Trump’s Israel-Hamas ceasefire deal, Mr. Flurry warned that Mr. Trump was “dealing with the devil.”
“This world is full of grave dangers,” he wrote. “Sometimes you must fight—or else be taken captive or destroyed by evil people!” Yet fighting evil is hard. It’s easier to kid yourself that on the other side are reasonable men, with whom you can sit down and do a deal. But Hamas wants Israel’s destruction above all else. The only deals it will sign are ones that bring it closer to that objective.
Witkoff’s is the standard liberal worldview—and it is dangerous. It views human nature as basically good and war as the result of miscommunication between basically good people. Get people sitting around a table, find out what they want, and you can bring peace.
The Bible gives a very different view. The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” states Jeremiah 17:9. We’re not all basically good—we want to get, to have and keep power, to protect our own people and establish dominance. We will lie, cheat and steal to do that.
“Our educational system looks upon man as being basically good and trustworthy,” writes Mr. Flurry in his book on Jeremiah. “That philosophy destroys institutions and nations! We must see the evil in human nature or we will never solve our problems. That is where man’s false hope lies—in an incredibly deceitful mind that is terminally ill! Here is where men generally place their trust. What deadly deceit!”
When dealing with world leaders, this danger is even more acute.
Our booklet Human Nature: What Is It? describes the way mankind acquired his evil human nature from Satan. The Bible reveals the very real existence of a spirit world. Jesus Christ talked often about the influence of evil spirits all around Him.
All men have acquired human nature by being tuned in to Satan’s invisible broadcast of selfishness and get. But Satan also directly influences and manipulates world events—through human leaders. These leaders can become led, even possessed, by Satan. In the latest Trumpet issue, Mr. Flurry wrote:
The leaders of these great powers no longer had the minds of human beings. They had the hearts of wild, raving beasts! That is why these empires are called beasts: They were ruled by men who took on the mind of a beast!
There is a crucial spiritual dimension to their transformation. These men who became so brutal had given themselves over to an evil spirit. Such beastly thinking is inspired by Satan the devil!
When Witkoff sits down with Putin or gets in touch with Hamas, this is the type of people he is dealing with. If he goes in there believing they’re basically good and peace loving, he leaves himself wide open to their deceptions.
“These dreadful beasts conquer and enslave entire nations,” wrote Mr. Flurry. “That is what these beasts do. But modern America likes to think of them as harmless wild animals. Our Israelite nations think like that because of their broken wills. They fear to face the extremely unpleasant truth. It is only a matter of time until they wake up to the harsh reality. These beasts only go away when they themselves are conquered.”
“President Trump does not see these powers for the beasts they are. This is a deadly weakness.”
Mr. Witkoff praised another individual in a way that was very revealing. Brett McGurk was his predecessor, serving as Joe Biden’s peace envoy. McGurk held office during Mr. Trump’s first term and also played a key role in Barack Obama’s Middle East policy. He greatly empowered Iran in Iraq as the U.S. tried to withdraw from the area. He played a major role in shipping Iran $400 million.
Yet Witkoff praised McGurk as “a smart guy,” and he listened carefully to his advice.
Again, Witkoff does not understand human nature and the spirit world around him. Mr. Flurry’s book America Under Attack exposes a satanic attack on America from within. Obama and his associates were not basically good people, making sometimes misguided attempts to bring peace and prosperity to America and the world. They were part of a satanic conspiracy to destroy America. If Witkoff is listening to these kinds of people, he’s opening the door for that destruction to continue.
Understanding Jeremiah 17:9 “is more important than any education in this world,” writes Mr. Flurry. “When we understand it, radical action is necessary. The greatest need is to understand God—to let Him reveal our own sickness and heal it. Until we learn this lesson, we are living under a curse (Jeremiah 17:5).”
This one issue illustrates how much Witkoff, the Trump administration and all of society need God’s revelation. Only then can you understand the world and how to deal with its leaders.
What about you? Do you see the sickness in the world around you—and in yourself? Are you ready to take radical action?
Mr. Flurry’s article “Does Donald Trump Know the Way to Peace?” more fully exposes the evils Donald Trump is dealing with and the mistakes he has made. And “No Hope in Man,” in his book Jeremiah and the Greatest Vision in the Bible, reveals that evil human nature—and what you can do about it.
